Training in chore time

Well, I have been taking LOTS of notes as I have been looking at refrigerator doors and listening to mothers speak of all the help they get around the house. I have been working on this for a while now, and we are getting closer and closer to actually getting the house clean and keeping it there. Plus, the biggest challenge, is for chores to actually happen within "chore time" so that school and other daily responsibilities can occur.

For me, the planning and organizing of the whole thing is the most fun. We have not had a printer in many years now. So, I have done everything by hand. Now that the Mantooth's have a printer (YEA!!!!!), I have made these wonderful charts that are sure to magically make our home run in ship shape fashion. JJ :) Now, I need LOTS of prayer to make this happen. I don't have anyone in my family yet that is independent enough to actually READ these wonderful charts and do their job. I still have to work on training them to read the chart, training them how to do the job properly, and training them to complete the job without hassle and within the time limits. Whew!!! That seems like a lot. I have seen it working in many families though, and I know we can get this down too. I hate being confronted with my own laziness and poor stewardship of my time. It would be so much easier if it was just the kids being trained in this process.

Amy,
Hi there! This is Jeanie(friend of the Sabo's). We too struggle w/ this. 5 lil ones 10 down to 14 months. We even bought the Managing your chores(which yours seems similar to that). I run into the issue that our vacuum is too heavy, but have been told to purchase a lighweight one for my kids...
Blessings and please post how it all goes.

For that reason, among others, vacuuming is my job. I like our vacuum and don't want to spend the money on another.

I hear you, do you have the dyson? We have it and it's HEAVY for my kids.

No, we almost bought a Dyson, but Consumer Reports rated the Kenmore Progressive InteliClean as one of their best. I have loved it. I am actually a little too much of a profectionist in some areas. I like to know that EVERY inch was covered and so I vacuum very systematically. So, more than the weight of the vacuum, its me cringing while I watch the kids go from one spot to the next with no rhyme or reason. Just one of my crazy tidbits about me.

I love the dyson mainly b/c it was a gift...free is always best. We had a kennmore for at least 4-5 years and it woudl overheat. Still have it as a backup if our next home has 2 floors. I don't like Kennmore AT ALL right now. The icemaker on our 2 yo fridge broke! Was $$$ to fix too...ouch!

Oh no! I am so sorry. It is always such a nusance when appliances break. The cost hurts and we are so convenience driven, it's really hard to change our way of doing things.

yes this is true..
I could have done ice trays, but we are moving in 8 months or about and selling in this market everything has to be just so....
